Awards for Andrews

The two Andrews - Montford and McIntyre - were honoured with Community Volunteer Awards last night for their work on behalf of Kinross Hockey Club (although Andy Mac couldn't be there to pick his up in person)

But well done us!

Gallery: Kobras at the Perthshire tournament

The new Kobras strips got their first official airing at the Perthshire Tournament this weekend, and you have to say they look really good.

Thanks again to our generous sponsors - Soho Wealth and Pure Spa and Beauty - for their support and thanks also to Tricia Macpherson and Gerrold Kuijpers, who took on photographic duties.

Midlands glory

Congratulations to David, Cammy and Arthur, whose Midland team came away with victory in the Interdistrict U18 championship at the National Hockey Centre in Glasgow yesterday. An honourable mention is also due for Alex Wilson, who captained the U16s to third place.

Andy's match report as follows:

Wins against North, East and Highland were followed by a tense final game against West. The boys went 20 up then were pegged back to 22, Cammie scored a great goal (his third of the tournament) to make it 32 which was quickly followed by a third goal for West. A very tense final 15 minutes saw them hold out for a 3–3 draw which won them the title.

Some pics below.

KHC at the sports hub launch

The new Kinross Community Sports Hub launched last weekend, with a fair at the community campus. A team from Kinross Hockey Club were on hand to tell people about what we have been getting up to and to encourage interest in the club.

Thanks to everyone involved!

Changes afoot

Visitors to KGV today will have noticed the arrival of the hockey club's new shipping container, the first spending of all those funds raised towards the new pitch. The container will be used to house maintenance equipment - a mini-tractor and various brushes - once everything is installed.

We are nearing completion of the lease of the land from KGV to Kinross Astro, the new charity that will own and operate the pitch. While that is being finalised, we are working on some issues with the drainage underneath the pitch, and after that we hope to be in a position to place the contract to install the pitch.

Which can't happen a moment too soon.

Korinthians step up to the plate

When we started the Korinthians a year ago, everyone assumed that this was just going to be a nice way for some people to have a knockabout game once a week. Little did we realise that it was going to turn into a breeding ground for new players. With both the ladies' teams decimated by an outbreak of exotic...erm...holidays this week, three Korinthians - Angela Scott, Vicki McLean and Anna McGregor - stepped into the breach today and not only did they all acquit themselves very well indeed, but Angela and Vicki managed to come away with both Kinross goals in a hard-fought two-one win against Grove III.

Skipper Wendy and coach Gurdi were both very, very proud.

A few pics below.

Introducing a second Kobras sponsor

We're pleased to announce that we have a second sponsor for the Kobras.  Pure Spa & Beauty offer health and spa treatments from a series of sites in Edinburgh and Glasgow, and one in Aberdeen too.  Why not check their website out?

Pure will be taking the back-of-shirt spot on the Kobras strips.  The new strips should get their first official outing at the tournament at the end of the month.

Pure has issued this statement of support for the club:

PURE Spa and Beauty are proud to be able to sponsor the Kinross Kobras hockey team. As a company PURE has wellness and happiness at the core of its values and recognises hockey as a sport that delivers on both of these. Go Kobras!

We certainly will, and many thanks from everyone here at Kinross Hockey Club.

Midlands U18s success

Congratulations to David Mac, Cammy and Arthur, who have made it through the final round of selection and will play for Midlands in the U18 interdistrict championships.

For a small club like Kinross, getting three players into the squad is really very impressive.
